Controls and parameters
Labels and units follow the controls in the app. The instrument, model, or mode can change which controls are visible.
| Control | Displayed range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Threshold | -60 – 0 dB | The reference level around which compression begins, according to knee and ratio. |
| Ratio | 1 – 12 :1 | The input-level increase compared with the output-level increase above threshold. |
| Attack | 0.1 – 100 ms | How quickly gain reduction follows rising level; a slower attack can preserve the transient. |
| Release | 10 – 1000 ms | How quickly gain recovers as level falls. |
| Makeup | 0 – 24 dB | Gain used to balance level after compression. |
| Blend | 0 – 100 % | The balance between the original signal and the processed signal. |
What is this effect for?
Controls picking dynamics and makes sustain more audible.
Try listening
With Blend fully wet and Makeup at zero, compare moderate and hard picking. Set Threshold and Ratio, then listen to Attack and Release. Adjust Makeup afterward to match the active and bypassed levels.
Things to watch
Makeup raises noise along with the signal. A slow Attack preserves the pick transient, but can also let peaks through.
Open the definition on a control label to understand its function. The same label can mean different things in different effects. Compare the active and bypassed sound at similar levels.
