steynwave support

A good start.
A better session.

From the first cable to your first saved sound.

Before you play

Connect your instrument.

You’ll need your instrument, a compatible USB audio interface with an instrument input, and wired headphones or speakers. An effects unit that exposes USB audio can also act as your interface.

  1. Connect your instrument to the interface’s instrument input. Use a clean or dry USB signal if your hardware provides one.
  2. Connect the interface to your Mac. Start with the output level low.
  3. Open steynwave pedal rigs and choose Guitar, Bass or Acoustic. New sessions start muted.

For the most consistent starting point, connect both input and output through the same audio interface. Bluetooth playback adds delay and is not suited to playing through effects.

Get your first sound.

  1. Open Settings and select your audio input and output. Choose the channel receiving your instrument.
  2. Play firmly and watch the Input meter. Adjust the hardware gain, then the input trim, leaving room before the meter reaches red.
  3. Select a simple factory preset. Unmute in Settings and bring up your listening level slowly.
  4. Watch both output meters. If the output is too high, lower the preset’s output level.

If you hear the dry signal and the processed signal together, check your interface’s direct-monitor setting. If input moves but output does not, check Mute, the selected output device and channels, and the rig’s output level.

Feel closer to the note.

Start at a 64- or 128-sample audio buffer. A smaller buffer reduces one part of the delay, but leaves less time for processing. If you hear clicks or dropouts, increase it one step.

Use wired monitoring through your interface, close other audio-heavy apps, and test a simple preset first. Device conversion, drivers and effects can add delay too; a buffer setting alone is not the full round-trip latency.

Find your rig’s controls.

Guitar Rig

Open Input and its instrument setup controls for guitar calibration and editable EQ. Tone Assist analyzes a recording locally and suggests an EQ starting point. You can inspect or adjust every band.

Bass Rig

Choose Clean DI, Warm Preamp or Parallel Drive. In the drive voice, set the low crossover and drive blend before adding more gain. Use the bass tuner for low-B and down-tuned playing.

Acoustic Rig

Open Input and its instrument setup controls to find the acoustic high-pass filter, polarity and two manual notch filters. Start the notch depth at zero, identify a resonance, then apply a modest cut. These controls are not an automatic feedback detector.

Drag effects to change their order. Use the plus on the signal line to add an effect, or the line menu to open a parallel path. Double-click an effect node to bypass or enable it.

Make a preset yours.

Each rig has 50 banks with A, B and C slots. Rename a sound, edit its genre and tags, then save it. Right-click a preset slot for its available actions, including import and export.

Guitar, Bass and Acoustic are workspaces inside one pedal rigs app. Each keeps its own banks and input calibration, so exploring another instrument preserves your saved sounds.

Native tone discovery

Explore TONE3000.

Open Explore TONE3000 in pedal rigs. Sign in with your own TONE3000 account, then browse NAM captures and supported WAV cabinet IRs in the native catalog. Search, filter or open a creator’s profile to explore their collection.

  1. Choose a category such as Amp Heads, Amp + Cabinet, Pedals or Cabinet IRs. Use the search, filters and sort order to find a capture, then open it to see its source details and model choices.
  2. Select a compatible capture. The app downloads and prepares its first compatible model for audition with your instrument. If you change the model, use Try with my guitar again and wait for the audition to be ready.
  3. Keep this tone adopts it into the current preset; Restore previous tone returns to your earlier sound. Save to My Effects creates a named local library choice independently of Keep. Save the preset when you want to retain your rig edits.

No personal API key is needed. Supported NAM A1/A2 models must match the audio sample rate they require. Supported mono/stereo WAV IRs can be resampled by the app and must be no longer than 500 ms. An Amp + Cabinet capture already includes a speaker response; check whether your chain needs an additional cabinet. Source attribution and the creator’s license apply to each file.

Do I need to download files or log in somewhere else?

Cloud browsing and downloads use your TONE3000 account. The app handles compatible model downloads while you audition. You can also import a local .nam or supported WAV IR without cloud login. Open in browser is available as a fallback for provider pages.

Is the catalog demo using my instrument?

Provider demos are recordings. Audition loads the selected compatible model into your rig so you can hear your own playing. Check your interface, input selection and monitoring before trying a capture.

What happens when I Keep, Save or close the panel?

Keep this tone adopts the audition into the active preset. Save to My Effects adds a named local library choice with its source details. Restore previous tone returns to the previous rig. Closing an audition that has not been kept requests restoration. Use preset Save to retain the adopted sound in your preset bank.

A few good questions.

How can I arrange the effects?

Add independent effect instances and move them into your preferred order. Open a parallel section to split the signal into two paths, then merge them into a serial chain when needed. Each instance keeps its own model and parameters.

Which computers are supported?

The current builds target Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 12 or later. Windows remains a future release target; iPadOS, iOS and Android are not available. See Downloads & compatibility for release status.

Can I use the MacBook speakers?

The app supports selecting a separate output device, including built-in speakers. Test it at a low level. For more predictable latency and to reduce acoustic feedback, wired monitoring through the same interface is recommended.

Are the sounds physical hardware captures?

The included steynwave amp, bass cabinet and acoustic body voices are original processing designs. They are not measured recreations of the illustrated hardware. Compatible NAM captures and IR files can be loaded separately.

Is Tone Assist a trained AI model?

The current Guitar Rig assistant uses local signal analysis to suggest EQ. It is not a trained generative model, and it cannot guarantee a specific artist’s sound. Bass and Acoustic Rig currently provide manual EQ and instrument setup controls.

Can I control steynwave with a foot controller?

The native app includes MIDI mapping and expression assignment. Compatibility and controller feedback vary by device. Connect the controller, select its MIDI input in Settings, and map the controls you need. Test preset changes and expression response before a performance.

Where do I report a problem?

For a private build, use the review channel through which you received the app. Include the app version, macOS version, interface, buffer size and the steps that reproduce the issue. Public support contact details will accompany the public release.
