Audio glossary

Sustain

The part of a sound that continues after the initial pick.

What does it mean?

Sustain depends on the instrument, pickup, fretting, compression, gain, and gate. A delay or reverb tail is different from the note's own sustain.

ExampleA high gate threshold can stop a note early even with lots of distortion.
