Controls and parameters
Labels and units follow the controls in the app. The instrument, model, or mode can change which controls are visible.
| Control | Displayed range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Threshold | -90 – -10 dB | The input-level boundary for opening and closing the gate. |
| Release | 10 – 1000 ms | How quickly the gate closes when input becomes quiet again. |
What is this effect for?
Reduces the signal when its level is low, making pauses quieter.
Try listening
Start with a low Threshold. Stay silent, pick moderately, then hold a note. Raise Threshold until pauses are quiet; lower it if note endings are cut off. Compare short and long Release settings.
Things to watch
An open gate does not separate hiss from the note. A Threshold that is too high can cut off soft picking and sustain.
Open the definition on a control label to understand its function. The same label can mean different things in different effects. Compare the active and bypassed sound at similar levels.
