dB SPL

Sound pressure level in air, using a physical reference.

What does it mean?

SPL differs from a file's or digital meter's level. Headphone volume, device sensitivity, and listening position affect the sound pressure you actually hear.

ExampleA file at −12 dBFS does not determine loudness at your ears without knowing the monitoring system.
