Diatonic steps

A distance measured in scale steps; its semitone size can depend on the starting note.

What does it mean?

On Interval, 0 is unison. Two diatonic steps reach the third note in the selected scale, with the semitone distance depending on the starting note. Negative values move downward. With Chromatic selected, the control uses semitone steps directly.

ExampleIn C major, two steps from C to E span four semitones; D to F spans three.
