Bit depth

The number of bits used to represent a sample in a particular format.

What does it mean?

Bit depth relates to quantization range and resolution. A bitcrusher intentionally uses low resolution as an effect; it does not change the hardware converter's quality.

ExampleA 24-bit audio format is different from Pixel's Bits control, which ranges from 4 to 16.
